We live in an age of chaos, with chaos being replicated from city to city. Now imagine a city that is built on a continuous soft stroke, with no sharp corners or dead ends; a city that encompasses differences, a city that is simple yet ...

Being | Becoming
3 June – 31 July 2005

Featuring the abstractions of Leslie Sim and Ardi Abdullah, being | becoming is a
unique opportunity to explore the paintings and drawings of two very disparate,
modern artists inspired by their surroundings. Feelings, rather than scenes, of daily
life typify the colourful artworks presented.

In his fourth floor collection, Leslie translates his view of the Singapore River from
the fourth floor, into his paintings, while Ardi plays with infinite shapes and forms in
urban series
. Within the walls a video of the artists is projected continuously, allowing viewers a glimpse into the makings of their work, their unwritten thoughts and life
stories.

These works, as well as their creators, represent all that is ' being' and 'becoming' — interpretations that are only limited by our imagination. The exhibition propels
audiences into the seemingly esoteric world of abstracts, and celebrates our response
to it — often one that is felt, not understood.
