Strokecity_2005: A Journey Towards Calligraphic Architecture
23 September - 1 October 2005

We live in an age of chaos, with chaos being replicated from city to city. Now imagine a city that is built on a continuous soft stroke, with no sharp corners or dead ends; a city that encompasses differences, a city that is simple yet sophisticated--that would be the ultimate realisation of a Strokecity.

Comprising of four series of digital works on canvas, Strokecity is part of Kent Neo's ongoing experiments to create an ultimate virtual city. The artist explores ideas of calligraphy and urban forms through the manipulation of stroke and path. He investigates the sculptural possibilities of creating a 'softer' urban environment--one with more contours and fewer edges.

Each stroke is an attempt to interpret a phenomenon experienced by the city or an antithesis to contemporary urban forms. The strokes are sculpted digitally, with an emphasis on abstraction, re-invention and continuity as the guiding path. In essence, Strokecity calls for a return to traditional wisdom as inspirations to an increasingly fragmented world.
